for painting your pottery

STAMPS

Hundreds of stamps to choose from

Stamps can be used to add designs with ease.
We have hundreds of stamps for you to choose from.

1. Choose a stamp(s) off the wall.
2. Choose a yellow sponge from the bowl on the paint brush table.
3. Choose the paint color you would like to use.

You can paint the surface a base color and then put the stamp on top. You can also apply the stamp on the unpainted pottery surface. If you choose to paint a base coat, use a darker paint color for the stamp color.

Process

Apply the paint to the stamp using a sponge.

Only stamp the image one time. It doesn't work very well to try to reapply over a previously stamped area. Instead, add to the stamped image with a paint brush.

DOTS, DOTS & MORE DOTS!

Dots, dots and more dots!

This is by far our most favorite technique. It is also the easiest!

Single and multi layer dots are very easy to create. Dots are made by dipping the end of a paint brush into paint and 'dotting' it on the surface of the pottery. You only need to do one coat with the dots because they are actually a small 'glob' of paint which is the equivalent of 3 coats. You should re dip your paintbrush end in the paint between every dot to maintain a consistent size and shape.

If you want to do multi layered dots, let the base dot dry thoroughly and then use a smaller size paint brush end and dip it in a different paint color. Dot the smaller dot on top of the larger one. You can layer up to 3 dots. It is important to let the dots dry between layers so the colors do not blend.

CONFETTI PAINT

As part of our effort to reduce, reuse and recycle, we save all of the left over paint from the paint palettes and use it for this cool technique!

Confetti paint chips create a drip of color on top of a painted surface. The paint chips create a raised, bumpy texture on the piece. The colors will vary depending on the color combinations of the paint chips. If the paint chips are used on a vertical surface, they must be used at the top of the piece. The chips will run and if they are near the bottom 1/2 of the piece, they will grow irregular 'feet' on the piece.

TRANSFER PAPER

Transfer Paper!

Create detailed designs using transfer paper. This is very similar to carbon paper, but the type we have is safe for use on pottery.

Create words or use clip art and print it out of the computer. Then use the transfer paper to trace the design onto the pottery.

Now you can trace and fill in the lines with paint.

If you can color in a coloring book, then you can do this!

STENCILS

Stencils work well!

We have hundreds of stencils. Stencils are best used as a template. Trace the design by following the line within the stencil. Then paint within the shape you have drawn.

STICKERS

Stickers can be used to make images on your pottery. Paint a base color on your piece (2 coats). Let it dry thoroughly and then place the stickers on your piece. Paint a different color top coat (3 coats). Peel off the stickers before the top coat dries. The base color will be exposed where the stickers were.
